Kajsa Ekis Ekman on dissolving boundaries

The fetishized transgression of boundaries is hailed as subversive, but it reduces people to objects. The dissolution of boundaries, on the other hand, has revolutionary potential. Dissolving boundaries means recognizing humanity in every person; recognizing that each and every one of us is a human being. There is nothing exploitative or slimy about this; it is objective solidarity founded on subjective understanding. I observe another person in the flesh and realize that this other person is simply me in a different situation, under other life circumstances. It is looking into another’s eyes and seeing yourself.
